Octave Cat is a trio of Eli Winderman (Dopapod - keyboards), Jesse Miller (Lotus – bass/modular synth) and Charlie Patierno (drums). The music ranges from stripped down jazz-grooves to analog synth dance music. Influences such as Herbie Hancock jazz-funk and Four Tet electronica can be heard. Octave Cat pushes the jazz and jam boundaries by incorporating elements of electronica and in doing so they have carved out their own unique musical space.

WHAGWAAN CULTURE presents 10 Ft Ganja Plant +++ mixed by Scientist +++ Celebrating 25 Years of 10FTGP

with special guests Sensamotion and Dubbest

Doors - 7:00 pm // Showtime - 8:00 pm // 18+

Anchor Rock Club // 247 S New York Avenue // Atlantic City NJ

10 Ft. Ganja Plant was born in the summer of 1999 from a desire to play Roots Reggae, the only music most of us knew how to play.  We wanted to water the tree that bore us such abundant musical fruit and amassed a collection of vintage equipment to make authentic-sounding records. In those days, most of us were touring for weeks at a time. We would get off the road and run to Mang Studio (aka “home,” to some of us) and try out new song ideas. Over the summer’s long sweltering sessions, we frequently took breaks to hit the rooftop, get a breath of fresh air, and watch and wait for the next track to materialize. Then we put it to tape. Raw.

Something clicked inside us all, and we quickly produced a large amount of material. The album Presents debuted in 2000, released on the Ithaca based imprint, I-Town Records. As we continued to build our arsenal of music, we decided to present the next batch of material (recorded on consumer grade JVC cassette decks), to a friend. In doing so, our family grew to include the underground NYC record label ROIR! (Reach Out International Records). From there, we continued to grow as a group of friends, family, musicians and engineers.

The first release with ROIR was Hillside Airstrip in 2001. On any given day, many musical friends stopped through the studio for vibes, further developing our sound. As a tribute to the unnamed heroes of Jamaican music, who gave so much for a chance to be heard by the world (for little to no credit), we decided not to include liner notes.

Midnight Landing arrived in 2003, reiterating the band’s passion for music rooted in the mid to late 70′s Jamaican style. The bass got heavier, the drums bigger, the melodies stronger, and the ganja smoke thicker.

Bass Chalice followed in 2005.

Riding the fine line between obnoxious skatepunk and soddenmetal, Murphy's Law came out of New York City's mid-'80shardcore scene and formed in Astoria, Queens, around vocalist Jimmy G. The group's self-titled debut, released on Profile in 1986, contained the usual '80s subjects (boredom, alienation, weed, beer, etc.), but the songs were definitely there, and Murphy's Law improved even more with their second album,1989's Back with a Bong! The band was on the Profile-associated Combat Records for 1991's The Best of Times, but recorded little duringthe early '90s. In 1995, Murphy's Law came back with the EP Good for Now, and the full-length Dedicated arrived the following year. Best of Times / Good for Now was issued in 2000; The Party'sOver came next in the spring of 2001.

Thirty years ago in Pomona Valley, California, was the birth of Total Chaos. Created outof the desperate needto savea dying genre of punk rock, during a time that the market was saturated with a more commercial newstyle. It was more important than ever to express their social and political views. The idea of social responsibility was a significant thing, from organizing peace punk picnics, to protesting against the gulf war, their music hada meaning and stood for something. Over the years, the band has seen many things come and go, but they have stuck to their original ideals. Whether you are pop punk, street punk, hardcore punk, straight edge, political punk, goth punk, skate punk, crust punk, metal punk, or whatever box they try to put you in, Total Chaos unites you all into one scene: PUNK ROCK!

South Jersey skate punk legends, Gutter Drunk, bring their incredible live show to Anchor Rock Club!  Not to be missed!

with you in spirit, the fourth Balance and Composure LP, is an arresting, atmospheric collection of melodic post-punk and towering rock. Due out October 4 on long-time collaborator and Grammy-nominated producer Will Yip’s Memory Music, it’s the band’s first LP in eight years, and a thrilling full-length comeback after their four-year hiatus. It thunders and stirs, dipping between beautiful, crystalline arrangements and punishing, earth-shaking climaxes; in between all, a gripping, near-physical tension crackles and growls and grooves, waiting to rip open.

It’s an intensely self-reflective record for vocalist and guitarist Jon Simmons, an uprooting and examination of the supports on which a life is built. Preemptive grief, wrestling with god and faith, familial responsibility, familial mortality—these are the things Simmons was carrying while writing this material. They’re also things he was trying, for better and worse, to avoid—hence the record’s title.

with you in spirit feels like the work of songwriters reaching new heights, exploring new depths. Sometimes, the record itself feels like a band grappling with its own avoidance, its own mortality, and deciding to face these things the only way they know how. Balance and Composure are with us in spirit, yes, but in the flesh, too, for now.

Sainthood Reps have been known for their unique blend of grunge and post-hardcore for many years. After releasing Monoculture in 2011 and Headswell in 2013, the band spent the next several years collectively pursuing other projects before eventually regrouping during COVID. Since 2022, the band has been in and out of the studio, compiling new music that marks a definitive step forward in their evolution. Stay tuned in 2025 for much more from the Reps.

  1.
  2. Although there are numerous, conflicting, tales of how, when, where, and sometimes why The Dead Milkmen initially formed, the most reliable evidence points to band founder Joe JackTalcum’s decision, in the late 1970’s, to create a band based entirely upona group of woodcut she discovered in the basement of The Vatican. Talcum then recruited acquaintance Rodney Anonymous and the pair immediately set about unlearning everything they had previously learned about music and spending countless hours screaming at inanimate objects. In 1982 bassist Dave Blood was added to the group after impressing Talcum and Anonymous with his ability to cover passing vehicles with ketchup. Shortly afterward, and entirely against his own will and better judgment, drummer Dean Clean joined the band. In 1985, the band, or “The Dead Milkmen” as they were now known, released their debut album “Big Lizard in My Backyard” which was instantly declared “The greatest cultural achievement of our time” (by theband themselves). Big Lizard was followed by “Eat Your Paisley” in 1986 and “Bucky Fellini" in 1987.The hit single “Punk Rock Girl” from the Dead Milkmen’s 1988 release “Beelzebubba” opened many doors to mainstream success, which the band then purposely set about slamming shut in the faces of anyone who used the term “Market Penetration” in a non-sexual sense. Two years later, the Milkmen followed up “Beelzebubba” with “Metaphysical Graffiti”; a work which is universally regarded as “a CD you can buy if you’ve got roughly eleven dollars”.Bored and looking to “do something different that didn’t include sacrificing a goat”, the band thenbegan recording “Soul Rotation” (1992). Although critically acclaimed as a brilliant recording (again, by the band themselves), sales were disappointing and the band returned to shoplifting.1993’s “Not Richard, But Dick” saw the band return to form and to arguing with each other...loudly... mostly in public places ...like restaurants, and so the band agreed that 1995’s “Stoney’s Extra Stout (Pig)” would be their final recording unless “some idiot hands us a %$#@ load of money to record another CD.” Tragically, for the Milkmen’s bank accounts, the idiot with the money was killed by a polar bear at the Kiev Municipal Zoo. In March of 2004, bassist Dave Blood decided to fake his own death for artistic reasons. Today he lives in a remote Serbian village with his wives and innumerable offspring. Suffering from the loss ofBlood, it appeared that the Milkmen would never reunite, let alone reform, or even band together again. In 2008 the band reunited, with bassist Dan Stevens on bass, playing the bass, in order to play Austin TX’s Fun Fun Fun Fest (temporarily renamed from “Fun Fun Fun Fun Fest” because “It’ll be a little less fun with the Dead Milkmen there.”) 2011’s release of “The King in Yellow”– the Milkmen’s first release in sixteen years–was at once declared a seamless continuation of their earlier work...in that it’s a CD you can buy if you’ve got roughly eleven dollars. In the autumn of 2012 the Dead Milkmen began releasing a series of singles on the should-be-by-now-obsolete 7 inch vinyl format in an obvious attempt to appeal to a younger "hipster"audience. Despite evidence that the singles were failing to expand their fan base, the obstinate Milkmen continued to produce four of them in the span of two years before releasing them in 2014, along with six additional tunes, on an album called “Pretty Music for Pretty People” to streaming sites and also as a CD that you can buy if you have roughly eleven dollars.

  3. In 2017 the band was approached by Giving Groove, a record company that shares profits with charity organizations, with an offer to release an album that would benefit any charity of the band’s choosing. The band delivered six songs they assumed would ensure that the label wouldwant nothing to do with, but, to their surprise, was released as the E.P. “Welcome to the End ofthe World” which, against all odds, is now in its fourth pressing in the still-should-be-obsolete inferior vinyl format. Fast forward to the summer of 2023: In an era of unparalleled stupidity, political dysfunction, and societal collapse, the Milkmen have returned with the release of their first full length albumin nine years, “Quaker City Quiet Pills”, on The Giving Groove record label. Written over the tumultuous three-year span of 2019 to 2022, the album includes gems such as “Grandpa’s not a Racist (He Just Voted for One)” and “Musical Chairs”. It was released to streaming sites in addition to the still-popular physical formats of CDand vinyl.
